Chapter Eight
âSince when did flowers get you all mushy?â Owen asked.
Emma watched as her brother stroked one of the rose petals. âSince I got some and they arrived today.â With a little card telling her how much he missed her.
She missed him too.
The other night, after sucking his cock, she didnât know if sheâd let him know too much of just how much she was missing him. It wasnât even about what he could to her body either. It was so much more than that.
âWhat are you two doing here? Donât you have work to do?â
âWe do, but you see, weâve got a bit of a problem.â Wyatt gripped the back of his neck, looking uncomfortable.
âWhat problem?â She looked between her two brothers. âWhy do I feel this problem involves me?â
Again, Wyatt and Owen shared a look.
âJust tell me.â
âWe got a call from Gabriel.â
Just hearing her oldest brotherâs name irritated her. Since he found out he was a Denton, heâd all but abandoned them.
Of course, Wyatt and Owen didnât see that. They still worked with him. âJust tell me.â
âMaddox has demanded punishment for Gideon.â
âWait? What?â
âHis son threatened his life, and now it has to be handled like a family. Gabriel wanted us to keep you here.â
âPunishment for threatening him. I donât understand.â She ran fingers through her hair, feeling like she was falling apart.
âThe Dentons are handling his punishment,â Owen said.
âGabriel called us and told us to take you back home.â
She shook her head. âNo. Take me to him.â
âWe canât do that.â
Emma glared at both of her brothers. âListen to me closely. You will take me to Gideon right now. Thereâs no reason they should be punishing him.â
âItâs family business.â
âClearly, you both felt I had a right to know because you wouldnât have told me otherwise. Now get your heads out of your asses and take me to him.â She grabbed her jacket. âDonât even try to pretend that you donât know where it is. I know thatâs bullshit.â
âLetâs go,â Owen said.
She didnât question them until they got into the car and were out on the road.
âWhy did you tell me?â she asked.
âGabriel told us not to.â
âSo? I thought you liked playing the minion for him.â
Owen put a hand to his chest. âThat hurts. Weâre not his minions.â
âYou were going to do as youâre told.â
Wyatt snorted. âIf we were going to do as we were told, we wouldnât have said anything and just taken you out to dinner.â
âGabriel needs to realize that just because he has a better last name doesnât make us any less. Weâre not the ones at fault for our last name. He can try to make himself believe heâs a Denton, but heâs also a Colton. He was raised a Colton, and thereâs a monster inside there that has nothing to do with a Denton.â
She didnât dispute it.
Gabriel, being the oldest of them all, had been through hell with their father. Of course, now they knew it wasnât really Gabrielâs father, but it didnât mean for a second that their brother hadnât been turned.
